If I had to confess a skin care obsession, it’d be thoroughly cleansing my skin with not one, not two, but three cleansers! I double cleanse daily, using an oil-based cleanser first to melt away makeup and sebum, and a water-based cleanser next to remove other impurities. Once or twice a week, I incorporate an exfoliator as my third cleanser.
To perfect my cleansing regime, I’m constantly on the hunt for the best cleansers. My latest finds are the PHA Perfect Pore Cleansing Oil and Matcha Hydrating Foam Cleanser from Korean skin care brand B.LAB.
What it does: This fragrance-free oil cleanser balances skin’s pH levels, dissolves makeup and gently exfoliates away blackheads and dead skin cells.
Key ingredients: Polyhydroxy Acid (PHA) to mildly exfoliate dead cells, improve skin texture and moisturize skin; jojoba seed oil to control sebum levels, hydrate, remove impurities and soothe skin; grapeseed oil to moisturize, protect skin from free radicals, tighten pores and even skin tone.
Best for: All skin types, especially oily or acne-prone skin.
My experience: I wanted something quick and easy to dissolve my makeup, and this cleansing oil did just that. I expected that it wouldn’t be strong enough to wipe away my stubborn eyeliner, but boy was I wrong! One small squirt of this oil-based cleanser went a long way. I massaged it onto my face for a good minute and watched my black eyeliner melt, before rinsing off with lukewarm water. Not only was my eyeliner completely gone, but my skin also felt lighter and nourished – signs of a well-cleansed face! The cleansing oil has a non-sticky and watery texture, so it didn’t feel dense or hard to spread against my dry skin. It certainly did the trick in gently removing makeup and other gunk from my face while keeping moisture levels balanced.
What it does: This water-based foam cleanser balances skin’s pH levels, restores skin’s water-oil balance and soothes skin.
Key ingredients: Antioxidant-rich matcha extract to soothe inflammation and combat skin aging; fructan to moisturize and boost skin immunity; allantoin to calm skin and strengthen skin barrier.
Best for: Sensitive and acne-prone skin.
My experience: After using the PHA Perfect Pore Cleansing Oil, I used this foam cleanser to complete my double cleansing. I squeezed a pea-sized dollop of this subtle green-colored cleanser onto the palm of my hands and massaged it onto my wet face. Small foamy bubbles formed, and the cleanser felt super smooth and soothing. It was also moisturizing thanks to its key ingredients, as well as cica extract, hyaluronic acid, ceramide and glycerin.
I was pleasantly surprised to find bits of actual green tea leaves in the cleanser – this is the real deal! In terms of smell, I expected a matcha scent, but it had a traditional soapy smell. Because of its green tea extract, the formula may change color over time, but this doesn’t affect the quality of the product. It’s still safe, and this proves that the brand uses natural stuff!
It’s been three weeks since I’ve started double cleansing with B.LAB’s PHA Perfect Pore Cleansing Oil and Matcha Hydrating Foam Cleanser, and my skin has never been better. I highly recommend both products as they’re safe and effective for even the most sensitive skin types. My skin felt squeaky clean and soothed and looked brighter and clearer after use. It achieves the perfect balance of both cleansing and moisturizing skin. I’m acing the double cleansing game with these two products!
