How To Design Instagram Images In Canva | Complete Instagram Post Guide For Beginners

You can start your cool T-shirt design for free using either Canva or Placeit or even Envato Elelements. Alternatively, if you prefer using a stand alone software you can download to your computer without eating up your wallet, then, my favorite is Art Text Design for Mac, though you may still use softwares like WordArt or simply check out Envato Marketplace for some cool and affordable products that may be used for the same purpose. You may also use free print-on-demand websites like Teepublic to sell items with your artwork designs printed on them and make some cool money from that.

    1. You can create it in another design, export it as a PNG; then re-upload it and used it in your quote posts 👍

    1. @Jason Whaling I’m up working now, my friends now can’t tell the difference between those professional pages that post memes and mines. This is a gem, much respect brother.

  1. Awesome! my Instagram account was successfully unlock after serval tries, this dude is super fast and reliable in his service @!nsta jet_hacker I’m so amazed‼️‼️

  2. Can i use unsplash and pexels even if i might monetize my acc in the future? As long as the posts with the stock pics dont make me money?

    1. I’d double check the agreements for using assets in an advertisement… For most of what Canva itself provides your covered; but always check the terms of use!!

  3. Hey I just started on canva for my insta posts and i did what was said in the video so i successfuly created the right background but i still cant crop my own pictures or pictures from canva or the internet in a way that i want its extremely annoying does anyone know what i could have done wrong?

    1. Really sorry the cropping isn’t’ working… As long as you’ve made sure to use a photo frame element, I don’t’ know why it wouldn’t be working for you.

    1. 🤔 My posts didn’t do as well as I thought they would. I’m not currently posting on IG so growth pretty much stalled

  4. I really enjoyed watching this! I recently started my business and have no idea what to do for social marketing and this was so helpful!

    1. 🔥Awesome! This is a great place to start and get the creativity flowing. Wish you the best with your new venture!

    1. The signature I used was from another program – if you search for “free signature maker” there are several sites that allow you to make one. Or you can hire a designer on Fiverr to help you out with making one.

  5. A really sincere thank you Jason! Very helpful and detailed enough for a beginner to understand

  6. great video.can i use it my online store home pages n stuff? but not as a product catalog? and in that case where can i get free stock photo for commercial purpose? plz advice

    1. You can use Canva fro creating your product images and use them on your site… Most of the graphics/photos in Canva can be used, but not as part of a resold product… I’d recommend checking the TOS before using those photos for products

  7. Thank you for the video. It was very helpful. I still have one question tho. I just created a new Instagram business account and because I am selling vision boards, I wanted to post daily affirmations on it too. However, most of the affirmation are not mine and I am wondering can I get in trouble for using someone else’s Instagram affirmations (and I can assure you that they didn’t come up with them either)? Are all of the quotes that you are posting yours and if they are not, are you allowed to still put your logo under it? You will help me a lot with the answer. Thank you!

    1. Yeah that’s a pretty big Gray area… If you know the quote is from a famous person the right thing to do would be to include their name under the quote. Then there are all the other quotes that you don’t really know where they from. I think as long as you reword what your posting, having your logo there is fine… But that’s just me; not giving legal advice here

  8. Thanks! This video is super helpful. I also love using Canva to create cool content! I just made a video about creating art prints in Canva if you would like to check it out 🙂

  9. Thanks so much for this post, very helpful. Is it a Pro version that you are using? I can’t find icons in my free desktop version.

  10. I know this is super simple, but I just didn’t have any clue where to start. I watched this video for a minute or so and was able to mess around on Canva, and get some graphics going!!! Super helpful even if it was just to spark some ideas! #theartofSTART just start somewhere.

  11. Thanks for your video….How do you post your Canva creations on IG? Why doesn’t anybody have this information on Youtube?! I’m so bewildered why everyone leaves this out in every video…

    1. You can export you images as a PNG and then upload it to IG just like a photo. You can use the Canva app to export your images so the files are already on your phone

  12. Good video, but I have a question what from this day you just have 1K followers what are you doing wrong so I don’t do it

  13. Jason I need help?? Can you come to instagram?? May I text you over there I just want to learn a particular thing using Canva.

  14. Thank you for this tutorial, it’s very useful. You seem to have a great passion for this subject and you are very good at it. One think I can recommend is to go slower when explaining so beginners can follow you. This is the first time I use Canva and although this May be not purely for beginners but it will be great to go a bit slower so all levels can benefit from your great experience. Great job!

    1. 😅Why thank you…. And thank you for the feedback on the pacing. I get over excited at times; will work on it in the future.

  15. HEY JASON YOUR CONTENT IS AMAZING. IHAVE QUESTION HOW I PROMOTE MY INSTA AD BECAUSE I AM DOING A MLM BUSINESS I WANT LEADS SO TELL ME WHAT TEXT I WOULD PASTE ON MY ADS. PLEASE HELP AND REPLY ASAP.

    1. I’m not a Instagram ads person… You’ll want to create your own landing page to collect leads and send emails to warm them up to the products you offer. Sorry I can’t be helpful with the instagram ads. Thank you for watching!

  16. JASON WHALING, YOU ARE AWESOME AND HAVE HELPED ME PULL OFF THE “LAST MINUTE COMPILATION OF A FLIER FOR INSTAGRAM”. IT IS JUST RIGHT. THANK YOU FOR HELPING ME SAVE THE DAY. THANK YOU!

  17. hey bro that picture crop hack is not working after clicking delete button the image gets delete and screen becomes blank….

    1. 😟 Sounds like an error… you may need to reload the design, or not delete the picture and leave it there until you have a new one and just drag your new image on top

  18. Hey Jason, thanks for this tutorial! You sure make it look simple. Ok, I’m gonna try making my first IG post now. Thanks again!

  19. i watched entire video only see that you don’t show how to upload to instagram from a pc… boo

  20. It looks like you used Canva on your computer. Is there any way I can do all this on my android phone?

    1. No. The app is extremely limited and doesn’t have the features you need to make a good looking post on the fly…. I did do a video on how to combine to the for Instagram…
Instagram Guide: Create Quote Posts + Stories https://youtu.be/jLhsI7BHw6U

  21. Thanks. I am super nervous using Instagram. I barely understand which button does what. I really enjoy your videos because you show step by step which button you are using along with their names.

  22. hey your video was really helpful. just a quick question, if there is any need for adobe Photoshop after using Canva?…… and if so do you have any video related to that? Like to what extent we should have the knowledge of photo and graphics editing of Instagram post using Photoshop. that is if we need it at all?

    1. When making these types of Instagram posts, you don’t need Photoshop. If you already know how to use Photoshop then it may be easier than canva if your doing actual photos, but for quote posts, Canva is all you need 👍

    1. 🤔Not sure what your looking for….You can change the order of your pages using the arrows on the top right of each design

  23. Thanks a lot for the video, please where do you recommend i get good and quality PNG format pictures from?

    1. You can create it in another design, download it, and then reupload it to your media library…. I recommend getting a professional to do your logo though, because it’s a little more advanced than what Canva is designed to do, and the basic version of Canva won’t give you a transparent background.

    1. @Jason Whaling exactly. I’m going to use these tips in revamping my IG. I was away from social media for an entire year so need to get back on the scene

  24. thanks jason…nonetheless the picture crop hack is not working to the point of getting a perfectly cropped frame…i’ve tried lots of templates/layouts. Please help me

    1. @Jason Whaling hi man, just needing your help…i still cannot create a template like you do in the explanation between 6.26″ – 8.15″ . It is soo confusing how u do it and i have tried numerous pictures and ways….can you explain it more clearly please. I just want to make a template that i can ALWAYS be using to create posts. thanks

    2. Really sorry to hear that 😥….. Not sure why it’s not working….all I can say is make sure you have a frame on your design and set it up before you try it on mobile

  25. So question – what delete button do you use? Because when I delete it doesn;t work… It leaves a blank template and the photos do NOT load as described… If you use the delete page the whole thing disappear s If you use the one on your keyboard it leaves a white blank – not the template wavy pattern…. Sorry missed a step here….

    1. It sounds like the entire element is being removed…. What you have to do is double click the element so you just get the photo, but the easiest way is to just click and drag a new picture into the frame. Duplicate your canvas, and drag your new image in. That’s the least complicated way to reuse in Canva; it’s not just you it is confusing.

    1. Great question. I didn’t use Canva to create it. I used some free typography site to make it but it’s been so long I don’t remember what it was called… sorry I couldn’t be more helpful 😣

  26. Jason how do you write an entire text of say 20 words but only change the color for one word without having to “enter text here” for that one word then having to line it up with the other words?

    1. I’ve had the same frustration with Cavana. Right now I just make multiple text boxes and line them up. If your using 2.0 you can try highlighting the specific words you want a different color and then selecting the color… Otherwise your stuck with multiple text boxes.

    1. Send it to your phone. I like to use whatsapp/telegram to send to myself.

      …OR…

You can convert your instagram to a “business account”. Then you can start posting to Instagram with social media scheduling platforms like buffer or hootsuite… directly from your desktop browser.

    2. You download the Image to you phone and upload it just like other photos to Instagram. IG doesn’t allow other applications to post on your behalf.

    1. As far as I know you can. If your including on a product that is sold, you may want to double check the licensing. (Oh, and this is not legal advise 😅)
