You can start your cool T-shirt design for free using either Canva or Placeit or even Envato Elelements. Alternatively, if you prefer using a stand alone software you can download to your computer without eating up your wallet, then, my favorite is Art Text Design for Mac, though you may still use softwares like WordArt or simply check out Envato Marketplace for some cool and affordable products that may be used for the same purpose. You may also use free print-on-demand websites like Teepublic to sell items with your artwork designs printed on them and make some cool money from that.

  1. This video is so helpful – showing the process from A to Z. Your videos are some of the most helpful that I’ve watched. Thanks again.

  2. How did I miss the crop tool?! Game changer! Does a good job by default, but is invaluable for Merch. Saves a lot of time and hassle.

  3. Nice ideas. Do you find the functionality a bit tricky in Placeit? For example, when you are trying to move things around just a tiny bit; somehow it just doesn’t align properly.

  4. I simply love your videos. I’ve not discovered you long ago but I can tell the quality and precision of what you teach. Calm and to the point, my cup of tea !
PLUS you’re an Affinity user… hard to come by ๐Ÿ˜‰ I do most of my work in Affinity too… and I love it.
Now my question here : I saw under your Coffee vignette that it was in 72 dpi… shouldn’t it be in 300 dpi to upload on marketplaces ? Or is it all vectors and it doesn’t matter ?
    Thanks for the precision !

    1. Wow, thank you! To answer your question… As far as I can tell the file is editable like a vector file but when I saved it saved as a transparent PNG file. (I believe all PNG files are 72 dpi I could be wrong) Anyway, when I pulled it into Affinity to check it looked great. I zoomed in and the lines were still nice and crisp no pixelation like you would expect on a 72dpi file…..Long story short, it still works well on tshirts…. You can try the same test yourself if you have Affinity Designer.

  5. Thank you, Juna! ๐Ÿ˜ I already use PlaceIt but I didn’t know that typing the phrase in logo maker puts it in the logo! I thought that was just search! ๐Ÿคฆ๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธ And I didn’t know you could resize *before* downloading. I always did after.

  6. Great video. I love Place It. I have been using it for the last few months and learned something new about it today, thanks!

  7. Oof almost 1,000 shirts for trend credits now. My one and only political shirt has been stuck in review for days.

  8. I love your videos because you give us the mindset of a graphic designer as opposed to just copying someoneโ€™s text design. I never thought Iโ€™d be designing shirts but Iโ€™m really enjoying the challenge to create my own unique designs. It gets a little overwhelming at times but imma stick with it!๐Ÿ˜Œ

  9. A good follow up to these videos, was putting these designs made in these videos with these services in several pod sites for a period of time and see if they sold, what do you think?

    1. I was thinking of doing something similar… 1 Design uploaded to 4 POD sites…. no ads just organic traffic… See the results in 3 months.

  10. That is so helpful I struggle with PS so use Canva I am waiting for them to curve text I do it manually it takes me ages.i am learning gimp it’s free .do you have any other recommended easy edit tips for a starter like I said I do Canva & place it but feel something is missing lol

    1. if you want to learn about gimp and inkscape, search “logos by nick” on youtube. it will help you so much.

  11. I have a question for all of you who use Place It for your T-Shirt Design.

What is your rate of Sucess…?

    Talking NUMBERS here…( How many sales..profits…etc )

    Thanks in advance !!

    1. @Detour Shirts I Understand your view…and it wasn’t directed at you specifically….

Being a graphic designer..I’m still wondering if it’s profitable to make the jump and buy already made designs…even if i modify them.

In my mind…the First one to buy the design will benefit from it…the others using the same design will only populate the Niche with the same thing….

      I hope I’m wrong….

      Just wondering out loud….

    2. I don’t have any data. I usually do all my designs in Affinity Designer… I am showing PlaceIt as an option for those that don’t want to draw their own graphics.

    1. Glad it was helpful! I learned about the resizer after my first video. Someone mentioned it in the comments.

  12. Juna can we use that merch credits on RedBubble or Teepublic will we have any chance of sale on those websites with these niches or it is just for MBA. ๐Ÿ‘

    1. Sometimes yes… The trend credits are mainly for Merch by Amazon because I’m finding them on Amazon…Sometimes they are trending on RedBubble too …You will just have to check the search/autocomplete for the trend lines

  13. How do you get your end product from Placeit on a Desktop to Instagram on your phone? What are the steps? Is there additional hardware needed like an iPad maybe? Or do you just export it somewhere? Thank you so much for all your help and encouragement!

    1. I download it… then I scale it in Affinity Designer (make it a square shape) You could scale it in Placeit too if you want… I add my logo, @detourshirts and available on Etsy to it in Affinity Designer… I save that to my desktop and then airdrop it to my phone… If you don’t have airdrop you can email to yourself….. Do you want a tutorial?

  14. I created a great one for MVP the day before they called it but because I’m not on merch, I uploaded it to redbubble…sucked

  15. Iโ€™ve used PlaceIt for a while and didnโ€™t know about the resizer. Always learn something new from your videos. Thank you

    1. You are so welcome! Yeah that resizer is perfect for POD… Especially Merch by Amazon where it has to be a specific size

  16. Many times i only upload just the graphic or something from placeit and move it to another template or other design tool (:

    1. True but it still looks great and works on Merch by Amazon… even when you zoom in there is no pixelation…I believe transparent PNGs are always 72 dpi.

  17. Nice video! I’ve been with placeit when it started so am grandfathered into the original subscription whereas I get all the services under one umbrella, I use it every day, not only do you have the logo maker, mockups, videos, banners you can apply for styles or product mockups, I have many times requested dog breeds, extra skateboarder mockups (as two examples) & if people upvote your request as popular, they then create these for you & you get an email when they have completes the project | Much Love, Peace & Respect | Stay Safe!

    1. Awesome… If I were to make another Placeit video what should I talk about next? What do you think is the most helpful for tshirt designers and sellers?

    1. @tomotorme knowledge will spread by sharing , it’s upto u give it or not . ๐Ÿ™โค๏ธ๐Ÿ‘

    2. @Detour Shirtsmaybe I skip amswer this time, let it be a secret ๐Ÿ˜€, aลก I know Im the only one doing that ๐Ÿ˜‰. You are the designer, try to figure out
