Powerpoint Text Art tutorial: Create beautiful typography in seconds

You can start your cool T-shirt design for free using either Canva or Placeit or even Envato Elelements. Alternatively, if you prefer using a stand alone software you can download to your computer without eating up your wallet, then, my favorite is Art Text Design for Mac, though you may still use softwares like WordArt or simply check out Envato Marketplace for some cool and affordable products that may be used for the same purpose. You may also use free print-on-demand websites like Teepublic to sell items with your artwork designs printed on them and make some cool money from that.

  3. Who all are facing some problem in merging shapes. FIRST SELECT THE PICTURE THEN HOLD CTRL AND THEN SELECT THE TEXT…. In the video instead of ctrl he said shift… It’s ok…. Hope this will help you all….
Thank You Sir. Such an awesome video…
    Love From India❤️

    1. Shift or Ctrl both will work while selecting multiple objects. The problem is – the textbox cannot be any of the default placeholders like title or content. Add a fresh, new textbox. Then it will work as expected.

  4. Hii I am using powerpoint 2010 version and not able to find Intersect option in format section..only I can see is
    1. edit Shape
    2. text Box

    1. File – Options – Customize Quick Access Toolbar – open the Choose Command From dropdown – select All Commands. Now in the list below, find Merge Shapes and then click add. Finally, you will have that button in the quick access toolbar – just above the File menu (along with Save , and Undo buttons). Make sure you use this along with separately added shapes. It does not work with the default placeholders (like Title and Text).

    1. Hey Cyprus. Artistic effect is in Picture options. Not shape option. Select a picture – Picture tools – artistic effects. Let me know if you face any issues. Cheers. Doc.

  5. Your business is beyond description, but why not send it to Google Drive for easy downloading, for everyone to benefit

  6. Hi Sir, i am not able to find the option “Marge Shapes” under drawing tool, i am using PowerPoint 2010. Any advice sir?

    1. Go to File – Options – Quick Access Toolbar. Open Choose Commands From dropdown – choose All Commands. Now from the list below, choose Merge Shapes and click Add. Now click Ok. The merge shapes button will be added to the Quick Access Toolbar, after Save, Undo, Redo… buttons.

  7. Remember guys, when you do intersect, you have to CLICK ON BACKGROUND PIC FIRST then the words. Otherwise it doesnt work!!

    1. Yes. The order in which you click matters. In fact, while you are learning, try both ways – you get interesting results.

    1. Do not add text in the default placeholders like Title. Delete those shapes, add a textbox or shape manually and try.

    1. Didn’t work for me either when I added a text box manually, but then I saw a comment that said that you FIRST have to select the background, and then the word!! This worked for me!

    1. No. Available since 2010. But these buttons were not added to the Drawing toolbar automatically. You had to customize Quick Access Toolbar and add the Merge Shapes dropdown manually.

  8. Im using powerpoint2010. There is no merge shape function. But similar to this is “combine shape” i think. I’ve followed all the instruction but when select that “hungry” box and the picture, cannot proceed with the “combine shape” button since it is disable (cannot click). Pls help

    1. Hi
PowerPoint can be exported as a video (MP4). Video files can be embedded in any web page.
If you have a OneDrive (free) account, you can also embed a presentation directly.
Let me know if you have any further queries.
      Doc.

    1. I am glad to know that you found this video useful. If you have any further questions, please post it here. I will be happy to help you. Cheers. Doc.

    1. Right click on any empty area in any slide. You will see Format Background option… in any version of PowerPoint. Merge / Subtract shapes option is available since 2010 version.

  9. I am using 2010 pp Version I am not able see the merge option in drawing tool tab and while customized the ribbon I am not able to use the option as its looking like disable

    1. Hi Shravan
Delete the default placeholders for title and subtitle / text. Add new textbox / shape. It will work.

  10. the first past, where you break the sentence into words. there is actually a far easier way to that. you just hightlight the word tyou want to take out, then drag it out of the text box. automatically, it will make a textbox of it’s own. this saves up a a lot of time and clicks

    1. Hi…
      Of course you are right.
But if I have a long sentence, I will have to drag each word … many times. Repetition is inefficiency. That’s why I wrote a macro.
      Let me know your thoughts.

      Dr. Nitin

    1. Oh, why not?
Try this. DO NOT use the default textboxes on a new slide. Delete them, add new textboxes and try again. It works. If any problem, let me know. I will help you.

    1. Yes. You can do this with 2013 as well. Most probably, you are using the default textboxes. Delete them, add a new textbox and try. It works.

    1. Hi
Sorry for the delayed reply. Try this. Delete the default text boxes on the slide. Add new text box. It will work. If it does not, let me know. I will help you.

    1. There is. MS just forgot to put in the UI.
Right click on the ribbon… choose Customize Quick Access Toolbar. You will see two lists. The list on the left side shows Popular commands. That is useless. Choose the dropdown on the top to choose All Commands. Now, just type the character M. Now scroll down to find the option “Merge Shapes”. Click Add. Now you will get the intersect, union, subtract and combine options.

    1. Change Background at Slide master level. View – Slide Master – go to the first slide and change the bkg / fw color as desired..

    1. Hi Sophia. Thanks for your feedback. Watch out this space for more on down-to-earth, minimum effort – maximum impact type of PowerPoint graphics ideas.

  11. I have PowerPoint 365 and it doesn’t work. I did not use the default title box. I made a TextBox, convert to WordArt then convert to Shape. Insert the image, select both and go to Intersect. The image disappear, all I can see is the text with no effect.

    1. Hi Douglas. I don’t understand what you mean by convert to WordArt. In any case, the order in which you select the image and the text matters. Select the image first, then the text. If it does not work, send a screenshot or the sample ppt to me at nitin@maxoffice.co. I will help you solve the problem.

    1. Hi Bui Kim Ngan
      Sorry for the delayed reply.
One important thing. When you add text, DO NOT use the default Title or Content layout. Delete the standard textboxes (they are called placeholders) and add your own textbox or shape. Now you can type text and then Combine Shapes will work. Let me know if you face any problems.

  12. what power point software do you use to make this? is that microsoft power point 2010? anyone, please answer me..

    1. @Efficiency 365 does it work with the online power point, I don’t find the convert to shapes option anywhere

  13. This type of video inspires a lot of people. Even I create similar kind of stuffs and Tutorial on PowerPoint.

    1. Thanks a lot. This is a great feature but commonly not known. Like this one, there are so many more things in PowerPoint. Just keep exploring – learn and then use your imagination. Cheers.

  14. Wooh, I didn’t know this can be done in powerpoint, usually my colleagues do it in PTS . Please do more videos on Powerpoint text art. Thank you 😀
